There are many used pinball machines for sale in the sub $1000 range that are great fun to play and that are modestly collectible which is an important factor for resale.
Many electro-mechanical pinball machines by Gottlieb and Williams will be in the low end of this price range, creeping to around $700, higher than that and the pinball machine needs to be both highly collectible and in pristine collector condition (mint playfield, backglass, fully shopped w/ new rubbers, and fully functioning).
In the mid to upper range of pricing, most any of the solid state pinball machines from the 1970s through the mid 1980s should be available with a few exceptions (KISS pinball for example). Gottlieb System 1 machines should be in the sub $800 range with many around $650. Stern and Williams machines should be around $800. All of these machines should be fully working and in good condition for these prices.
